Why is Zarinar Anwar standing in Kings Hedges?
‘I’m fed up with councillorswho don’t live here making decisions behind closed doors. They only show up when they want our votes, never when our community needs them. Our local issues go deeper than potholes and litter. Kings Hedges is one of the most deprived wards in Cambridge, and the impact is felt every day. Food bank usage is at a record high, and many families are struggling just to get by.
Our young people also have nowhere dedicated to go, no safe space to learn new skills, build confidence or simply have fun. In a city as wealthy as Cambridge, this gap shouldn’t exist. Residents here aren’t asking for special treatment. We’re asking for fairness, investment and opportunities that match the needs of our community. It’s time to close the gap and ensure Kings Hedges gets the support it deserves. I want to give Kings Hedges a voice on the council and empower our community to decide on what we need.‘
Zarina strongly believes that the people of Kings Hedges need a better life and that this can be achieved by raising their income. One way to do this is to pay them a Cambridge Weighting Allowance and for her and Dave this is a campaign priority.
Zarina works as a forensic scientist for a public service.
Zarina is a trade unionist: a member of Prospect.
Zarina lives the same struggles as other members of the working class in Kings Hedges.
Zarina left the Labour party because they are appeasing the right wing, no longer representing the interests of the most vulnerable in society, and cutting public services and the NHS

Zarina is an experienced left wing campaigner who, like so many of us, left labour because ‘labour has moved to the right
