Council Bits

Potentially a subjective view, but written with integrity.

Performance, Assets and Strategy Overview and Scrutiny Committee 9-12-25
Peter Freeman and his team came to this scrutiny meeting to explain about Cambridge Growth Company.

Some of the points that were discussed/explained were

  • A team of high quality experts are being put together.
  • They will take a holistic view to ensure developments are worth living in.
  • Developments will be an exemplar of sustainable growth.
  • An  emphasis that infrastructure should be planned and built first/preferably before any development.
  • Will involve unlocking travel/transport difficulties.
  • Working alongside the local plan.
  • Geography will mainly be Greater Cambridge but not exclusively so.
  • Potentially along the OxCam Corridor.
  • After the May elections there will be consultations.
  • Transparent format with an aim for all party buy in.

The important points that were taken from this and earlier discussions, were that there is a sense of integrity emulating from Peter and his team. This in particular was about two related points

  • that infrastructure is not a bolt on requirement that will be a burden to developers. It will be integral and oversight will ensure developers build a place for people to live.
  • that the team will be professionals with reputations to uphold – their overview not involve compromise.

Food Waste Collections
Government legislation requires that all councils make arrangements for food waste collections. Over the course of 2026 all residents will be provided with a means for food waste collections.

By recycling your food waste, you will help cut down the amount of waste that ends up in landfill or other disposal sites. Food waste that is sent to landfill doesn’t harmlessly break down. It has a big impact on the environment as it rots and releases methane – a harmful greenhouse gas that is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
